Born in Taipei/Taiwan, currently based in London/UK.

Shu Wei Chang (b. 1998, Taipei) is currently in her final year of the MFA Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Taipei National University of the Arts (2021) and studied as an exchange student at Tama Art University in Tokyo (2019).

Delving into human-machine hybridity, her work examines Internet phenomena and the properties of technological devices, aiming to navigate the present and future without excessive anticipation or fear, fostering an open and dynamic engagement with our technologically mediated world.

Once again, the Y2K trend resurfaced in 2023, with all the fancy objects of my childhood reappearing in contemporary life as markers of style. Curious about the origin of the term Y2K, I discovered that it stems from the Y2K problem—a computer glitch that sparked widespread fear at the turn of the 21st century. At the time, many believed the world would end due to a binary error in computer systems.

Drawing from articles and news between 1999 and 2000, Y2KY reconstructs the fear and anxiety of that impending "doomsday" through a semi-fictional narrative. It reflects on people’s views toward the rapid development of technology, addressing the fear of losing control, the absurdity of apocalyptic predictions, and the complex dynamics of the human-machine relationship.
