Andrej Karpathy, an engineer from OpenAI, views the essence of Large Language Models (LLMs) as dreaming, describing them as machines of dreams. Prompting similar thoughts to Chat GPT, they reply that the process of constructing language is akin to weaving dreams. Inspired by the words, I wonder if the anthropomorphic lexicon blurs the complexity behind the operation and eases the fear of technology in their familiar tone. Auto Sleep Mode simulates the ambivalent coexistence between comfort and discomfort, by combining the posture of scrolling on a phone before sleep, ergonomic products designed to ease the back, and an animation of endlessly searching data to emphasise the heterogeneity of anthropomorphised machines.
